“Parents and Teachers Dedicated to Enriching Student Life”
The PTA is a non-dues organization for all parents and teachers at American School of Doha. The purpose is to enhance and support the school in two main ways: by fostering communication between parents/teachers and the administration, and also by hosting numerous special fundraising events throughout the year. We give most of our yearly revenue for major items that the school would otherwise be unable to purchase, but we do support smaller projects, too. The PTA welcomes ideas and requests from teachers and parents.
Some of the important activities include coordinating the elementary homeroom parents; creation and distribution of the free ASD Information Booklet and the ASD School Directory; creation and sales of our annual photo calendar- a much anticipated item that many use at home or work and as holiday gifts. In additional to our annual elementary book fair, we organize and host the ASD Community Activities Information Night and a buffet luncheon for the entire school during International Week. The PTA also awards two $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors each year. We host a catered luncheon to honor our dedicated teachers and staff on Teacher Appreciation Day.
The PTA hosts two major fundraising events each year. The first is a black tie ball which is a fantastic evening of dinner and dancing for adults only. Our other and biggest event of the school year is the Friendship Festival. This spring event includes games and activities for the kids, local stores and vendors selling goods, food and drinks from a variety of local restaurants, and a huge silent auction including commercial items as well as baskets created by our elementary classes
With the money raised, the PTA has been able to fund many improvements at the school. These include an environmentally conscious, state-of-the-art outdoor learning center, purchasing the seating and lobby lights for the Ladd Center for the Fine Arts, and contributing to the an elementary chalkboard wall. The past year saw the PTA fund the renovation of a science lab and learning support lab and contribute to a drama learning area in the Middle School.
The PTA is grateful for the generous contributions from many companies in our community. We would especially like to thank
Maersk Oil which is again the Premier Sponsor of both of our major for the 2011-2012 school year.
In order to accomplish all this, the PTA is fortunate to have the tireless support of many of our parents and teachers and the ASD administration. Our volunteers participate whenever and however their personal schedules allow. I invite you to read the PTA’s weekly updates in the Sahifa and to join us for the monthly meetings.
