Learning Support Program
Philosophy:
The Learning Support (LS) Program recognizes that not all students learn in the same way and at the same pace. As stated in ASD’s mission statement, “the school will enable each student to reach his or her full potential". Through the Learning Support Program and differentiation by classroom teachers, students at all levels are supported at ASD. A basic belief associated with this program is that collaboration between LS teacher, classroom teachers, parents, and the student is necessary in order to provide an effective program of support.
Objectives:
The Learning Support Program seeks to identify students who need support, provide support to these students, improve student achievement, and exit students from the program when appropriate.
Who Qualifies?
Students who have mild learning difficulties that significantly interfere with their academic performance in the classroom, and who are at risk for not meeting the grade level standards of our school, may qualify for placement in the Learning Support Program. Admission to the program is determined on a case-by-case basis, and is dependent upon whether a particular student’s needs match the level of services available.
Description of the Program:
Students who qualify for the Learning Support Program, after an established referral process has been followed, will have an ISP (Individual Support Plan) developed in order to address their unique learning needs.
Support may be provided in the following ways:
Individual pullout
Small group pullout
In-class support
Consultations with teachers and parents
