Essential Agreements for Information & Technology Literacy

Teachers will teach and assess the ITL curriculum, as appropriate.

Teachers will provide opportunities for students to construct knowledge and develop innovative products using technology.

Teachers will infuse technology, where appropriate and effective.

Teachers will use differentiated instruction.

Teachers will ensure students can evaluate information from diverse sources.

Teachers will instruct students in the inquiry process, developing strong research and analytical skills.

Teachers will provide multiple avenues for collaboration within and beyond the school walls.

Teachers will model and teach ethical use of technology and what it means to be a good digital citizen.

Teachers will develop independent learners to be adaptive and flexible and to master ever-changing technology tools.

Teachers will incorporate inquiry-based learning to support real-world connections.

Teachers will foster ‘students as creators’ as well as ‘students as consumers.’

Teachers will provide students with opportunities to read a variety of literature and discover their personal taste.

Standards for Technology


Standard 1: Creativity and Innovation

Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

Standard 2: Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

Standard 3: Research and Information Fluency
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

Standard 4: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

Standard 5: Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.

Standard 6: Technology Operations and Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
